I think you should wait until he gets more mature then that... Really, acting like a jerk one day and be nice the one after is a sign he does not care enough for you. I would say : stay in touch with him, but not more then that. And insisting that he talks with your dad is a pretty good idea since he won't until he really wants to be with you...
